Outside Magazine just announced “The 16 Best Places to Live in America: 2015,” and our close neighbor Beaufort, South Carolina, made the list at number eight! We heartily concur, although we would place Beaufort at number two, directly after Fripp Island of course!
Beaufort is surrounded by water. As Outside Magazine mentions, there are nearly a million acres of water and wet-lands to explore, and that’s not even counting the Atlantic Ocean, making Beaufort a paradise for those who love to get wet and explore.
Beaufort has that classic Southern charm; much of it looks like it was built for the set of “Gone With the Wind” (pre-war, of course) with classic antebellum-style homes surrounded by giant oaks covered in Spanish moss. Many think of Beaufort as a more affordable and hip Charleston.
Beaufort’s numerous dining options serve up the finest seafood, including the freshest of the fresh shrimp and oysters. There are a multitude of dining choices, from fast casual to haute cuisine. You will find just the thing to wet your appetite when you visit Beaufort.
Beaufort, SC, like Fripp Island, has some incredibly unique history. You can learn about the Gullah, African Americans from the Lowcountry region of South Carolina and Georgia who have taken great strides to preserve their unique African culture. The annual Gullah Festival occurs every year in May.
There are many other great festivals and events all year around. The Beaufort International Film Festival takes place every February. A Taste of Beaufort brings the yummiest together in one place in May, Parris Island has a wonderful 4th of July festival and the Beaufort Water Festival is also in July. There are numerous other events throughout the year for the whole family to enjoy. The Story Telling Festival, The Soft Shell Crab Fest, Fall Festival of Homes & Gardens and the Sand Sculpture Contest occur annually, to name just a mere few of events Beaufort serves up. Of course, if you can’t find something fun to do in Beaufort, just don’t leave Fripp Island, where there is always something fun and adventurous waiting for you!
What is the best way to experience Beaufort? Stay on Fripp Island and take the short drive to the “big city” for a heapin’ helpin’ of Southern charm, culture and cuisine and then head on back to the Island to recharge your batteries and really get away from it all. You can golf, play tennis, get up close with nature, play in the water, and so much more on our own little slice of paradise. We love Beaufort, but number one for all of your vacation needs and desires is, and should always be, Fripp Island Resort!
